Romea and Julius
by William Shakespeare
regendered and directed by Helen Alexander
fight direction by Jonathan Leverett
choreography by Vanessa Curtis
In the first week of July The Actors Works' students return to the Brockley Jack Theatre with their new interpretation of Shakespeare's enduring story of star-crossed lovers.
The year is 1649. Charles II has been executed. England has no monarch and is under the rule of the Lord Protector, Oliver Cromwell, who has secured a fragile peace at the end of the civil war.
This Actor Works production of the most famous play in history views the story in a new light, challenging perceptions of society's masculine and feminine 'norm', and draws attention to that age-old problem, the under-representation of women in classical drama.
