About the film club

The Brockley Jack Film Club is part of the Brockley Jack Theatre. It aims to offer a quality, affordable and enjoyable cinema experience at least one Sunday a month between September and July. In addition to classic and foreign cinema, the programme will include thought-provoking and less well known films. The club will also showcase short films made by local film-makers.

Drinks purchased from the Brockley Jack Pub can be taken into the screening.

Brockley Jack Film Club

It has been two months since we launched an online survey about the film club and the response has been fantastic.  We would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to fill in the survey.

There seems to be a real appetite for watching films on a large screen locally and the key points that came out of the survey were:

·         100% would like a film club in Brockley

·         99% want to watch short films as an addition to the main programme

·         92% would like to watch non-English language films

·         87% are interested in joining a membership scheme

·         50% prefer a Sunday late afternoon or early evening screening

·         17% expressed an interest in parent & baby/toddler screenings.

Here are some of the comments we received:

“Sounds like a good idea. It would be a really good thing for the local community. Hope it happens!”

“In a film club I am more interested in stuff that isn't always widely available and would be good to see locally on a bigger screen. Good luck with this venture. I look forward to a scotch and cinema.”

“I think it a great idea and I would love to see some of the less commercial films that it very hard to see locally (or disappear quickly).”

“Fantastic idea and long overdue. Loads of potential and interest to make it work!!! Would be good to really mix up the films, new releases alongside classics and world cinema. Hope it works out - looking forward to the screenings!”

“It would be fabulous if the film club was established. It is badly needed in the area.”

So the good news is that the Brockley Jack Film Club will happen, funding permitting.

The film club, a non-for-profit venture, will be part of the Brockley Jack Theatre. Taking on board your comments the programme will be eclectic and interesting, with a good mix of recent quality films that you might have missed, some classics and, of course, short films.

There will possibly be a one-off show in the summer with the season officially starting in September 2008 with one screening a month on a Sunday late afternoon or early evening, plus extra dates planned when the theatre’s calendar permits.  And, yes, it will be possible to enjoy the film with a glass of wine (or coffee, or scotch...)

Membership Scheme

We will be launching a low-cost membership scheme that will allow you to get tickets at a discounted price, vote on the film selection and be kept informed in advance of forthcoming screenings. If you haven’t joined the film club’s mailing list or if you have any queries, please contact me at film@brockleyjack.co.uk
